“Loy Krathong Festival” is a tradition where many Thais make floating flower baskets called “Kra-thong” and float it in the river to thank the Goddess of Water. Children always enjoy making their own Krathongs at school. Of course, this is not the traditional one. It’s a super easy version which the flowers can float and bloom in a water basin. Hope you guys enjoy it with your kids.
What you’ll need
- Chanafavors Free Printables
- Permanent Marker
- Scissors
- Glue Stick
How to Set Up
- Print the Chanafavors printable file for 3 layers of the flower. Have your children color each layer with permanent markers as they like.
- Cut out all 3 layers of the flower. Fold each petal inward.
- Attach the medium layer on top of the large layer and the small layer on top of the medium layer with a glue stick. Fold all the petals inward again.
Tips
*The paper is made of wood which is filled with holes inside. Water sticks together and clings to the hole wall in the paper. So the water moves into the paper. The paper then absorbs more water until the crease on the paper is filled with water and loosens, causing the petals to unfold.
*This action is known as capillary action, which explains why plants can bring water from the soil up to the plant.
