Magnetic Hen

In this activity, children play as a hen to catch worms and drop worms to chicks. The hen’s magnet attracts a metal paper clip inside the worm. Magnetic attraction works over a distance and falls when there is none. Let’s practice hand-eye coordination and learn science in a fun way.

What you’ll need

  • Chanafavors Free Printables (Link in Bio)
  • Paper Clips
  • Magnet
  • Craft Stick
  • Plastic Container
  • Scissors / Glue
  • Transparent Tape

How to Set Up

  1. Print Chanafavors free printable files and cut out the images.
  2. Fold the worm in half lengthwise, put a metal paper clip inside the worm and cover with clear tape.
  3. Attach magnets and the hen to a craft stick. Attach the chick image to a small plastic container with clear tape.

How to play

  1. Place the worms around the chicks bowl and cover with a large plastic container.
  2. Show your children how to catch a worm with the magnetic hen and slightly flip the stick to drop the worm in the chicks bowl.
  3. Invite your kids to catch the remaining worms to feed the chicks.

  • The size of the magnets and the shape of the container also matter. Test to see if your magnets work well with both plastic containers before attaching the pictures.
