Handling Emotions 1: Jars of Emotions

This activity helps children learn how to recognize facial features of their emotions and learn how they feel during the day. Once the child is aware of their emotions, they can take the next step in managing them. Let’s get started.

What you’ll need

  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick

How to Set Up

  1. Print the Chanafavors printable file. Cut out the face images.

How to play

  1. Place the jar sheet in front of your child. Talk about each emotion and its facial features.
  2. Invite them to select a face image and talk about its facial features. Then ask if they can tell the name of the emotion and put it in the matching jar. Repeat with the remaining face images.
  3. Attach today’s feeling sheet to the table. When children perceive their own feelings, they can put matching faces in the jar to acknowledge those feelings.
